Tips for making a hard or soft chin-chin recipe

  • For a soft chin-chin recipe you can add 1 tsp of baking powder and also increase the quantity of butter to 250g.
  • Then for a hard chin-chin recipe, you will reduce the quantity of butter to 50g, If you wish to add egg it should be just one medium. No baking powder.

What makes chin-chin soft

  • Baking powder (in Baking “baking powder” is a softening agent. Take note.
  • And Butter (the more you add butter into your dough the more soft your chin-chin gets)

And that’s it for both the hard and soft chin-chin recipe

Procedures for making chin-chin

  • Measure all dry ingredients in a bowl minus your butter i.e. (flour, sugar, nutmeg, and salt). Mix together and set aside.
  • In another bowl measure in all your wet ingredients including (egg, milk, and vanilla), whisk, and set aside.
  • In your dry ingredient measure in your butter and mix well until just combined.
  • Afterward, add in your wet ingredients little by little as you continue mixing till it forms like dough, then you knead for 5 minutes. Note (don’t overwork the dough). And that’s it! You are done………

Allow to cool down and enjoy. It can be taken with a mug of coffee, tea, or a glass of chilled juice whichever you prefer, they all go well.

Difficulties you might encounter

Sometimes you may find out your chin-chin has soaked a lot of oil. Here is why and what you should do.

  • Your oil wasn’t hot enough
  • The oil was too little for the amount of chin-chin dough being fried
  • You added too much chin-chin dough to the oil i.e overcrowding the oil which decreases the oil temperature.

What you should do

  • Always test the heated oil by throwing in a piece of chin-chin dough in the oil. If the oil bubbles and the piece comes up immediately then the oil is ready for frying. But if the piece stays down, you just have to wait till it comes up.
  • Ensure to use the deep frying method in frying any pastry or snacks, it comes out perfect other than using a little quantity of oil for frying.
  • Ensure you have an adequate amount of oil while frying. Overcrowding your oil with too much chin-chin dough decreases the temperature of the oil, thereby making it soak in oil.

For now, I think these are the difficulties you might encounter. But in case you face any difficulties while preparing this snack you can drop a comment in the comment box below, or contact us.
