A kitchen is considered the heart of a household where food is prepared. Hence there are rules to observe well in the kitchen.

When making meals, what goes through your mind? For most people, it’s just to go in prepare a meal, and then go out however it is important to ensure that the meals served are not only delicious but also healthy.

To prevent harm to yourself and those around you you must know what you are doing. Set a proper plan and arrangement in place when cooking.

Also, endeavor to get the right safety equipment.

Must observe kitchen rules

Yes, they are plenty of common kitchen rules but I have narrowed it down to 10 basic rules that must be observed while in the kitchen.

Below are must observe kitchen etiquette

1. always wash your hands 

You would think this is common sense, but a lot of people forget this step. Always remember to wash your hands in warm soapy water for 20 seconds before and after cooking. Over the day your hands might come in contact with a variety of bacteria and viruses that can cause illness because your hands can be a virtual freight strain of bacteria.

Thoroughly washing your hands reduces the risk of spreading these diseases.

After washing try to use paper towels to dry your hands, dish towels may have raw meat or juice residue from wiping the dishes, and drying your hands with this can lead to food poisoning. Also when handling raw meat or poultry wash your hands again before handling other ingredients to avoid cross-contamination.

2. Always put on safety clothing or outfits

  • Always wear shoes:

Have you ever dropped a kitchen knife or something sharp or hot have you ever fallen due will a phone unlock the water leakage in your kitchen you don’t want to have your feet exposed when it happens. It is always recommended to wear shoes whenever you are cooking keeping your feet and closed will give you that extra protection, either from a falling object, broken glass, hot water, or spills.

  • Wear safe clothing: 

Putting on tops with fitted sleeves or no sleeves works best. Avoid any long or baggy clothes when cooking in the kitchen. And also avoid wearing dangling jewelry to the kitchen.

Covering your hair: covering your hair with a knee cap or cap is very important to avoid your hair ending up in the food.

 

3. Have a fire extinguisher and know how to use it:

The leading cause of fires and injuries in the household or cause when cooking knowing how to use your fire extinguisher in case of an emergency is very important as there won’t be time to start reading instructions when a fire has broken out. This device may not do much for your cherries jubilee but it can avert a disaster.

4. Storage of food:

As you know food is essential for humans. Proper storage of food is a very important rule that must be observed. How you store and manage your food ultimately determines how fresh and safe the food you end up eating is. It is best to refrigerate your food within 1 to 2 hours depending on room temperature.

5. Keep your work area clean and cluttered:

Wash your work surface and floor with a bleach solution, this is said to be the most effective way of getting rid of bacteria.

6. Ensure that any open sores or cuts are covered:

Always ensure that any sore or cut on your hands are completely covered. If the sore or cut is infected, stay out of the kitchen.

7. use different chopping boards for raw meats, fruits, and vegetables:

Using the same chopping board for meat vegetables and fruits is a guaranteed way to get the whole family sick with salmonella poisoning.

I advise you to use one chopping board for raw meat, poultry, and seafood and another for fresh fruits and vegetables if you should use the same board, it is safest to prepare your fruits and vegetables first, wash your cutting board thoroughly with soap and hot water and then prepare your meats.

Note: Also always wash and disinfect your cutting boards after using them for raw foods.

8. Handle hot dishes with care:

Having hot dishes not only possesses a risk to yourself but all those around you.

Never leave stovetop dishes unattended while the burner is on, end-use oven mitts when removing a hot lid to avoid burning your hands.

When boiling water doesn’t full it all the manner to the top as it will bubble and glide over whilst warm. And be mindful and make certain you have a clear pathway when moving a pot of boiling water over to the sink.

Any spills have to be wiped without delay to prevent any accidents.

9. know your equipment and how to handle them:

Always get to know your equipment read instructions that come with appliances, and understand how to use them. Keep small appliances dry and away from the water always let appliances cool down before cleaning them. Also, never use an appliance for a purpose for which it wasn’t created. Get the right appliances for your kitchen.

Cleaning up your work area or spills as you go, not only helps save time, When cleaning the kitchen, but will help prevent accidents. Water and grease on the floor will almost guarantee a fall. So as you u engage in cooking, put in mind to always clean up.
